Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Nylanderia pubens is an invasive ant that is currently plaguing parts of Florida and Texas with extremely high populations that dominate landscapes. It is hypothesized that insect growth regulating (IGR) ant baits would be distributed more efficiently among multiple colonies of N. pubens than fast-acting baits containing metabolic inhibitors. Laboratory evaluations of commercially available ant baits as well as lab formulated baits were conducted on colonies of N. pubens to specifically look for IGR effects of reduced brood production. Colonies fed baits containing methoprene and pyriproxyfen exhibited reductions in brood, however improvements in bait formulations are needed to improve consistency.
