Interpretive Summary: Leaf beetles are among the most important insects for U.S. agriculture. Many are serious pests, feeding on crops and destroying valuable plants; others are important biological control agents that can be used to control unwanted weeds. This work summarizes information on distribution, biology, ecology, morphology of adults and larvae and phylogeny and classification of leaf beetles associated with aquatic plants, providing characters and illustrations for their identification. This study will be useful to biological control workers, taxonomists, ecologists, and anyone interested in phytophagous beetles.

Technical Abstract: Overview of distribution, biology, ecology, morphology of adults and larvae and phylogeny and classification of world Donaciinae is presented. Adult and larva of Donacia species, details of spiracular horns of larvae, head and female genitalia of adults are illustrated.
