Interpretive Summary: Adapting to climate variability and change can be achieved through management activities and new technology. This publication was a collaborative effort between USDA-ARS scientists in Auburn, AL and University of Florida researchers, and focuses on the use of conservation tillage in crop production systems. The publication outlines ways that conservation tillage can promote agronomic benefits, potentially reduce economic costs, and reduce risk related to climate variability. Technical Abstract: Adapting to climate variability and change can be achieved through a broad range of management alternatives and technological advances. This publication is focused on the use of conservation tillage in crop production systems. The publication outlines ways that conservation tillage can reduce risk related to climate variability, such as through increasing water available to plants and improving overall soil quality by increasing soil organic carbon, which also both provide direct agronomic benefits. Examples of investment costs and benefits are also provided to illustrate potential economic savings. |
