Interpretive Summary: Essential oil of catnip (Nepeta cataria, L.) has recently re-discovered as a botanical-based control agent in medical and veterinary related insect pests. This chapter will introduce the origin of this plant and its multiple usages on biting repellency and oviposition deterrence against mosquitoes and biting flies, as well as its potential as a larvicide.

Technical Abstract: Presenting brief reviews of using catnip oil as an alternative control agent against biting insects, as well as their newly found larvicidal activities and oviposition deterrence including effectiveness and longevity.
