Citrograph. 38-39. Interpretive Summary: In layman terms this article details how recombinases work, how they can be used for precise genome engineering and why this is a benefit. The article goes further to explain how a specific recombinase strategy will be used for genome targeting that will provide the gene of interest and remove excess DNA such as selectable markers. Technical Abstract: This article discusses the research needed to develop the RMCE strategy and molecular assays for site-specific recombinases as tools for genome manipulation. Explanation of genetic engineering used to generate transgenic citrus plants to exhibit a novel phenotype, but not to contain the recombinase or selectable marker DNA in a single generation are detailed. |
