A new species of Neophyllaphis (Hemiptera: Aphididae) with keys to species on Podocarpus (Pinales: Podocarpaceae) . Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington. 116(1):69-79. Interpretive Summary: Aphids are pests that feed on many of the world’s agriculturally important crops, trees, and ornamental plants. In addition to direct feeding damage, aphids are one of the most important insects in the role of transmission of plant diseases. This paper describes a previously undescribed species of aphid that feeds on a plant of horticultural interest in the U.S. Identification of this aphid will be of interest to horticulturists, biodiversity researchers, and quarantine personnel at ports-of-entry in the U.S. Technical Abstract: An adventive, previously undescribed species of Neophyllaphis (Hemiptera: Aphididae) is described and illustrated. Both COI and EF-1a sequences are presented for Neophyllaphis n.sp. Modified keys to Neophyllaphis spp. found on Podocarpus spp. Podocarpaceae) are provided for identification. |
