Taxonomic notes on American heriades spinola, 1808 and leioproctus smith, 1853 (hymenoptera: megachilidae colletidae). Zootaxa. 3591:75-78. Interpretive Summary: The polyester bee Leioproctus rosellae and the resin bee Heriades tayrona have only been known from females. Since sexes of bees differ significantly in appearance it is important to describe both sexes. Here males of the two species are described and illustrated with photographs of distinguishing characters. These species were recently discovered in Colombia and have rarely been found. Technical Abstract: The previously unknown males of Leioproctus rosellae and Heriades tayrona, two recently discovered bees from northern Colombia, are described and diagnostic characters illustrated. The additional material of Heriades confirms that the megachilid tribe Osmiini does reach northern South America. |
