New definitions for cotton fiber maturity ratio. National Cotton Council Beltwide Cotton Conference,January 6-8,2014, New Orleans, Louisiana. p. 954-961. Interpretive Summary: Cotton fiber maturity affects fiber physical, mechanical, and chemical properties, as well as the processability and qualities of yarn and fabrics. New definitions of cotton fiber maturity ratio are introduced. The influences of sampling, sample preparation, measurement method, and correlations among fiber properties on maturity ratio results are discussed. Using single fiber data from the Advance Fiber Information System (AFIS), maturity ratio values are calculated by different definitions. The research provides a more accurate characterization of cotton fiber maturity.
