Interpretive Summary: Traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) have been widely used for the prevention and treatment of various diseases for thousands of years in China. Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC) is a relatively new technique offering new possibilities in liquid chromatography. This paper reviews recent developments in UHPLC in the separation and identification, fingerprinting, quantification and metabolism of TCMs. Recently, the combination of UHPLC with MS greatly improved work efficiency for the analysis of TCMs.
