Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Weissella ceti, the causative agent of weissellosis , is an emerging disease of rainbow trout. Weissellosis was first described in farmed rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss in China in 2007 and has since been identified as the causative agent of disease in outbreaks at commercial trout farms in both Brazil and the southeastern United States. This book chapter describes the disease caused by Weissella ceti including information on its geographical range, clinical signs and methods for its diagnosis. The emergence and spread of this novel pathogen poses a threat to rainbow trout culture and thus monitoring for this pathogen has become increasingly important.
