Robust scientific evidence demonstrates benefits of artificial sweeteners. Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism. 25(1):1. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Artificial sweeteners (AS) have not been found to have a negative impact on health in humans. They have been recommended as a safe alternative for individuals who are seeking to lose or maintain weight. However, unnecessary alarm has been raised regarding the potential health risks of AS. This is of concern as individuals who are attempting to engage in a healthier lifestyle are often presented with many barriers to achieving their energy balance goals. As the rates of obesity are rising, accurate information regarding weight loss and maintenance is clearly needed. Robust scientific evidence demonstrates the many benefits of artificial sweeteners. |
