Interpretive Summary: This manuscript summarizes the results of part of the second round of analyses performed by scientists participating in the First International Swine CD Workshop. This workshop was set up to compare and standardize the reactivities of monoclonal antibodies (mAb) that recognize pig leukocyte cell surface markers. For the second round analyses, the reactivities of 54 mAbs on T cell subsets or lines were analyzed by flow cytometry and the data subjected to statistical clustering to identify groups of mAbs that reacted similarly with specific pig T cells to assign them specific cluster of differentiation numbers (CD#) or swine workshop cluster numbers (SWC#). Nine mAb derived from four different laboratories could be included in the SWC1 cluster. The SWC1 antigen is a molecule expressed on the majority of PBMC, resting T lymphocytes, monocytes and granulocytes. B lymphocytes are negative for the SWC1. The molecular mass of the antigen is unknown. Clustered mAbs were examined in more detail to determine whether they boun to the same area, or epitope, of the CD antigen in the later stages of the second round of workshop analyses. Epitope analyses revealed that seven out of the nine mAb recognize similar epitopes on the SWC1 molecule.
