Interpretive Summary: Biological control relays on the use or natural enemies to reduce and manage populations which can be an alternative to pesticides for reducing agricultural losses due to arthropod pests. Fire ants are social insects which is one of the reasons that they have developed efficient defense mechanisms against predators and diseases.

Technical Abstract: This article outlines the importance of fire ants and the difficulties on the use of biological control to reduce their infestations.
