Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Child obesity is a serious problem because it tracks and accumulates throughout childhood and into adult years. Child obesity predicts child cardiovascular disease risks, which also track into the adult years causing adult cardiovascular disease-related morbidity and mortality. As a result, arresting and reversing the development of child obesity has become national and international priorities to reduce disease burden and related social costs. Towards this end, the European Commission funded the Identification and prevention of Dietary- and lifestyle induced health EFfects In Children and infantS (IDEFICS) study. The IDEFICS study was an ambitious effort to design, implement and evaluate multi-level (community, schools, families and children) child obesity prevention interventions tailored to 2 to 9.9-year-old children in eight European countries. This issue of Obesity Reviews is the main source for the primary reports of outcomes and process evaluations.
