Interpretive Summary: Scale insects cause billions of dollars in damage or control costs each year and are serious agricultural pests. This research provides detailed descriptions and illustrations of a felt scale insect that is new to science and gives identification tools for the various life stages of all species in the genus. This research will be of special interest to quarantine officials and state and Federal insect identifiers.

Technical Abstract: Oregmopyga davesmithi Miller and Stocks from and Arizona and Mexico is described. Keys for the separation of species are included using the adult female, second-instar male, second-instar female, and first-instar nymph. Detailed illustrations and descriptions are included including the adult female, second-instar male, second-instar female, and first-instar nymph.
