GeneBank accession: ASM199098V1. Interpretive Summary: Peach fruit infected with peach scab has little market value due to black freckles and spots on the fruit surface. The disease management and resistance breeding in peach largely rely on knowledge of the causal agent, Venturia carpophila. Recent genomics advances has demonstrated genome sequencing can decode the entire genome and predict most gene functions, which merit our effort to sequence and analyze this fungal pathogen genome. The genome sequence not only facilitates our full understanding of the genome and genes, but also is a valuable resource for various research subjects in the pathogen and peach host. Venturia carpophila genome sequence is publicly available in GenBank, with accession ID, MECS00000000; BioProject ID, PRJNA321389; and BioSample ID, SAMN04993191. Technical Abstract: Venturia carpophila causes peach scab, a disease that renders peach fruit unmarketable. We report a high-quality draft genome sequence (36.9 Mb) of V. carpophila from an isolate collected from a peach tree in central Georgia in the United States. The genome sequence described will be a useful resource for research of the biology and ecology of the pathogen, coevolution with the peach host, characterization of genes of interest, and development of markers for studies of genetic diversity, genotyping, taxonomy and phylogenetic analysis. The annotation of the genome is described and a phylogenetic analysis is presented. Venturia carpophila genome sequence was deposited to GenBank with accession ID MECS00000000, BioProject ID PRJNA321389, and BioSample ID SAMN04993191. |
