Interpretive Summary: The hard red spring wheat produced in the U.S. is traded at the highest prices on the worldwide wheat markets because of its high protein content, strong gluten, and good baking properties. ‘Bolles’ (PI 678430) is a hard red spring wheat cultivar that was released by the University of Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station in 2015. The wheat cultivar shows very good quality including very high grain protein content, strong gluten, and good baking characteristics, along with competitive grain yields and good disease resistance. Bolles is a mid-late maturity, semi-dwarf cultivar that should improve the overall end-use quality of the hard red spring wheat crop in its region of adaptation in the north central U.S

Technical Abstract: The hard red spring wheat market class in the U.S. commands the highest prices on the worldwide wheat markets because of its high protein content, strong gluten, and good baking properties. ‘Bolles’ (PI 678430), a hard red spring wheat cultivar, was released by the University of Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station in 2015 combines very high grain protein content, strong gluten, and good baking characteristics, along with competitive grain yields and good disease resistance. Bolles is a mid-late maturity, semi-dwarf cultivar that should improve the overall end-use quality of the hard red spring wheat crop in its region of adaptation in the north central U.S.
