Interpretive Summary: The publication is prepared as a postmortem dedication to Joseph Bové, an esteemed international scientist. The article describes many of his outstanding contributions to the disciplines of microbiology and plant pathology predominately related to citrus pathology and specifically his many contributions working on a single disease, citrus huanglongbing, the most severe disease of citrus world one. He was one of the premier scientists worldwide on phytoplasma and fastidious bacterial diseases. He was and still is considered one of the world’s authorities on huanglongbing. The article is linked with a slide set of Prof. Bové in various research settings and imbedded in the article is a web link to a video interview of Prof. Bové discussing huanglongbing, implications of the disease in Brazil and worldwide, and various research strategies. The publication is important in that it marks and documents not only professor Bové’s many contributions, achievements, and impressive awards, but also the passing of one of the world’s premier scientists and scholar.
