Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Part of the framework for effective control or management of cyst nematodes depends upon the detailed understanding of their biology. This chapter summarizes fundamental knowledge and recent discoveries about the biochemistry of cyst nematodes, particularly areas related to lipids, carbohydrates and proteins. Although there is a paucity of research directly examining aspects of cyst nematode biochemistry, burgeoning genomic data now provide opportunities to make inferences about biochemical pathways through bioinformatic analyses of nematode gene content and expression. When possible, this chapter illustrates the increased insight into cyst nematode biology provided by the coupling of genetic and bioinformatic resources with biochemical approaches.
