Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory continues with their modernization plan. The 35% architectural drawings have been completed and the project is currently out for bid for the completion of the design and building of the new facility. Research activities include responding to the H7N9 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in Tennessee and the related low pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks in Alabama, Georgia and Kentucky. The virus appeared to be the classic case of a wild bird virus entering poultry flock and mutating to highly pathogenic avian influenza. Work on Newcastle disease virus continues to look at new viral vectored vaccines for both NDV and the use of NDV as a viral vector. The endemic disease grow has recently added a new scientist to work on Marek’s disease. The goal to move the Avian Disease Oncology Laboratory continues.
