Interpretive Summary: This is a chapter for a new book entitled “The Genus Citrus - From Genomes to Orchards to Consumers”, to be published by Elsevier and will cover many topics related to citrus and citriculture including evolution, biology, taxonomy, anatomy, physiology, genetics, agronomy, plant protection, and other applied and industrial technologies, including post-harvest behavior and processing. This book chapter covers three main bacterial diseases, Citrus canker, Citrus Variegated Chlorosis and Huanglongbing. For each disease subjects covered are history, etiology and diagnostics, pathogen and molecular biology, epidemiology, and disease control/management. THE GENUS CITRUS is designed to serve as a reference book for all undergraduates, students, professionals, researchers and specialists focused on citrus, citriculture and horticulture, as well as those working in the various aspects of the industry seeking to expand their knowledge and appreciation for the crop that provides their livelihood. The main aim of this book, including an overview of the fundamental principles and conclusions of citrus biology and behavior, is to update the enormous amount of new knowledge that has been generated in recent years in practically all topics related to citrus. The book will provide an original and comprehensive review of the genus Citrus, from an evolutionary point of view through its value as a market product.
