Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This chapter briefly discusses the concept of the ecological footprint and summarizes various means to mitigate atmospheric carbon dioxide. Frequent deviations from the established climate patterns and severe weather events such as drought, heat waves, flooding, and severe winter events are perceived to be caused by natural and anthropogenic greenhouse gases (GHGs) such as the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This chapter also surveys an approach of using biochar as a means to mitigate GHGs, mainly atmospheric carbon dioxide.
