Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Globally, there is an increasing concern on emerging drug-resistant “superbugs” and the lack of new antibiotics for treating human and animal diseases. For instance, in livestock animals, there is a timely need to develop strategies to replace antibiotics in food-producing animals, with especially emphasis on poultry, swine and cattle. The upcoming 2-day meeting will be focused on Phytochemicals as alternative to Antibiotics Growth Promoters (AGP) and recent scientific achievements in this field and their mode of action in major agricultural animals. Furthermore, animal scientists from industry, academia and government research institutes will gather and share their experiences in developing and applying potential antibiotic-alternative phytochemicals commercially available to reduce AGP use and to develop a sustainable animal production system in absence of antibiotics.
