Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The strong trends in climate change and recurrent events of natural disasters are evident with an effect on food security. With the likelihood of further climate variabilities and extreme weather events occurring, and potential impacts on food security, it is essential to address the adaptation strategies for food security. Adaptation strategies must be implemented to improve the productivity of agriculture under existing climate change to help future variability, while meeting growing demands for food security. The objectives of this paper are first to outline the impacts of natural disasters and climate change on food security and second, to suggest adaptation strategies that can help to manage the risk and achieve resilience. Achieving an adaptation action plan will require the integration of disaster risk management and climate change-related issues with other risk factors. The information will be useful in decision making for policymakers to address the impacts of natural disasters and climate change and achieve food security.
