Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The extent of soil microbial life and their functions will be discussed. Examples of soil microorganisms with particular roles in crop production will be used to illustrate how knowledge of these soil microbial workers can inform management practice. The goal is to promote understanding of soil microorganisms and their responses to their environment so that producers can select practices with the best result for their operation.
