Its work through many different agencies provides historical and ongoing efforts to promote the prosperity of American farmers, ranchers, and all aspects of agribusiness.

Technical Abstract: The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) was founded in 1862. Since then, the USDA has touched and improved the lives of generations of Americans through research in food production, nutrition, agricultural systems, natural resource conservation, economics, and marketing. Research funded by the USDA through its Agricultural Research Service and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture has resulted in a variety of abundant, safe, and nutritious foods for the growing population and provided economic opportunities in rural and urban communities. Ongoing efforts by the USDA continue to address critical needs across the United States.
