Interpretive Summary: Scientific Note, talking about the different species of Brevipalpus in the State of Sao Paulo and its distribution.

Technical Abstract: The genus Brevipalpus belongs to the family Tenuipalpidae (Acari; Trombidiformes), whose members are generally referred to as flat mite. These mites are present in tropical and subtropical regions. The recognition of Tenuipalpidae species has been greatly hampered by the natural morphological variation of each species. The purpose of this paper is to present a taxonomic review for the mites found in citrus in Brazil, in order to solve a series of taxonomic and nomenclature difficulties. To date, the following species have been found; Brevipalpus phoenicis (Geijskes), Brevipalpus papayensis Baker and Brevipalpus yothersi Baker, the latter being the most common in citrus orchards in the state of São Paulo. O gênero Brevipalpus pertence à família Tenuipalpidae (Acari; Trombidiformes), cujos membros geralmente são referidos como ácaro plano. Esses ácaros estão presentes em regiões tropicais e subtropicais. O reconhecimento das espécies de Tenuipalpidae tem sido bastante dificultado pela variação morfológica natural de cada espécie. A proposta deste artigo é apresentar uma revisão taxonômica para os ácaros encontrados em citros no Brasil, para tentar resolver uma série de dificuldades taxonômicas e de nomenclatura. Até o presente momento, foram encontradas as seguintes espécies; Brevipalpus phoenicis (Geijskes), Brevipalpus papayensis Baker e Brevipalpus yothersi Baker, sendo esta última a mais comum nos pomares citrícolas do estado de São Paulo.
