Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: An increase in Alternaria leaf spot (ALS) disease incidence in Michigan and the presence of fungicide resistant Alternaria alternata isolates have increased attention to ALS. A working effective and consistent inoculation method in for screening in the lab, greenhouse and/or field, investigate fungicide resistance in A. alternata were examined to better understand the pathogen. A method for spore production was developed as a rapid sporulation method for A. alternata by placing fungal discs on half strength V8 medium and incubating in the dark for 10 days.
