Interpretive Summary: Chiggers are important economic parasites associated to vertebrates including the man. This is a review of a chigger mite genus from Brazil that parasite mammals. These results are important to public health officials, animal protection officers, extension workers, agriculture scientists, entomologists and farmers.

Technical Abstract: The genus Arisocerus is synonymized with Herpetacarus. Redescriptions of Herpetacarus amapensis comb. nov. and Herpetacarus hertigi comb. nov., are provide with new Brazilian locality and host records for H. hertigi comb. nov
