Technical Abstract: This piece tells the story of two brothers, Tom and Dan Rogers who are incorporating cover crops into their California almond orchard. It explains why soil health and the soil microbiome are important and how cover crops promote these beneficial soil qualities. However, management of cover crops can be challenging and the issues the Rogers will need to tackle are also presented.
