Interpretive Summary: The paper discusses the status of citrus huanglongbing (HLB), a serious disease of citrus that is devastating citrus industries worldwide. In this paper we present the evolution and current status the disease in Florida, California and Texas including how the citrus industries in each state have been challenged by and dealt with the disease in collaboration with state and federal agricultural regulatory agencies. Based on the current and unique disease situation in each US state, our epidemiological understanding of the disease, and past experiences of various citrus industries around the world who have dealt with this disease for decades, we provide a prognosis for each of the affected states. The paper serves as a historical record of the impact of and response to HLB in each state as well as a most probable outcome in future years. This paper will be of use to citrus industries, regulatory agencies and researchers addressing this disease.
