Technical Abstract: “A Global Strategy for the Conservation and Use of Apple Genetic Resources” was completed and released in 2019. This strategy was developed over a number of years and included input from expert consultation meetings and a survey that was distributed to apple collection managers throughout the world. The Strategy provides background information about apple (Malus) genetic resources, both in situ and ex situ, and their vulnerabilities. Collection information is provided for 38 collections in 33 countries in six continents. The Strategy proposes the development of a Global Apple Diversity Platform whereby experts in Malus conservation can share information within the community about management practices, collection information, as well as develop coordinated efforts for standardization. The Strategy is available at the following website: https://cdn.croptrust.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Apple-Conservation-Strategy.pdf (DOI: 10.13140/RG.2.2.34072.34562).
