DOI: https://doi.org/10.1007/s11686-021-00375-7 Interpretive Summary: Chiggers are associated with many wild and domestic animals and could affect humans. This paper describes a new species of a chigger associated with an endemic mammal from Bioko Island, Africa. This NMNH museum record information is useful for people working with acari, domestic and wild animals, conservation, quarantine, agriculture and medical and veterinary fields. Technical Abstract: Elianella, with only two species recorded, is one of 61 genera of chiggers reported to the Africa continent. In this study, we are describing a new species for Elianella collected from the Bioko Forest Shrew. This new species is the first chigger recorded to the Equatorial Guinea, on the west coast of Central Africa. |
