Interpretive Summary: This is the editorial paper to the Special issue of the European Journal of Soil Science “Advances in soil scaling: theories, techniques, and applications.” The special issue presents selected contributions to program of the PEDOFRACT IX conference that took place in Barco de Avila, Spain in July 2019 and attracted scientists from 15 countries. This editorial provides the structured description of the special issue with annotated summaries of papers, briefly addressed the discussions on future developments, and concludes that scaling in soils offers exciting research avenues to follow.
