DOI: https://doi.org/10.17660/ActaHortic.2021.1312.15 Interpretive Summary: This manuscript provides the firs botanical report of a species of Himalayan barberry previously known from Xichou, Xian, Xichou, Xian, and Nanchang, Gongshe in SE Yunan Province, China, from three locations in Hà Giang and two in Lào Cai Provinces, Vietnam. This species differs from other Vietnamese species in having no or largely absent nodal spines, very short petioles, oval shaped leaves, and 1 – 3 seeds per fruit. Herbarium specimens from Lào Cai Province were deposited in the Hanoi National University Museum: HNU 022576 and HNU 022577.Qualities of this barberry are discussed. Technical Abstract: Berberis hypoxantha C. Y. Wu ex S. Y. Bao, a species previously known from Xichou, Xian, Xichou, Xian, and Nanchang, Gongshe in SE Yunan Province, China, is newly recorded from three locations in Hà Giang and two in Lào Cai Province, Vietnam. This species differs from other Vietnamese species in having no or largely absent nodal spines, subsessile petioles, eliptic to ovate leaves, and 1 – 3 ovules. Vouchers from Lào Cai Province were deposited in the Hanoi National University Museum: HNU 022576 and HNU 022577. Qualities of this barberry are discussed. |
