Interpretive Summary: Amendments to viral taxonomy are required periodically to allow for the inclusion of newly-described viruses, and to better position previously named viruses for which availability of new information suggests a more appropriate taxonomic placement. In March 2021, following the annual International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) ratification vote on newly proposed taxa, the phylum Negarnaviricota was amended and emended: four families, three subfamilies, 42 new genera and 200 new species were added. Thirty-nine species were renamed and/or moved, and three species were abolished. This article presents the updated taxonomy of Negarnaviricota as now accepted by the ICTV. This information will be utilized by virologists and regulatory officials worldwide to ensure that viruses can be correctly identified, and their relationships to other viruses can be understood.
