Technical Abstract: This review summarizes the presentations given at the 1st international conference of the World Society for Virology (WSV) under the theme of tackling global viral epidemics. The purpose of this biennial meeting is to foster international collaborations and address important viral epidemics in different creatures. This online meeting was held in June 16-18, 2021. It focused on the emerging viral infections in humans, animals, and plants, as well as bacteria. Due to SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the first day included two sessions exclusively on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. The other two days included one plenary and three parallel sessions each, comprising important viruses infecting different host species. Last but not the least, we had 16 sessions for on-demand submitted talks. All in all, we had 270 participants from 48 countries, including 40 invited keynote speakers, who are top experts in their fields, and 140 submitted abstracts.
