Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Instrumentation enables the acquisition of energy consumed while ginning seed cotton, however, there are external variables which may influence the result. The objective of this work is to explore some of these external variables and to estimate their potential influence on the measurements. To accomplish this, instrumentation connected to a tabletop gin captures relevant data while certain variables are controlled. Some of the variables explored include the use of different operators, the effect of sample size, and the influence of the cotton variety. Analyzing the collected data for significance allows for estimation of the variable’s effects. This work lays the groundwork for a deeper understanding of how ginning energy data can be acquired and utilized. Having a better understanding of the variables involved will help to develop best practices designed to ensure that data collected is comparable across future tests. Future work can expand on this result by looking at a variety of gin stands and including further variables.
