Interpretive Summary: Knowing the genetic code of plant-parasitic nematodes, microscopic roundworms, is of value to the scientific community to understand how pathogens interact with plants and their origins. The genetic code of the carrot cyst nematode, a microscopic worm that feeds on the roots of carrots and causes yield loss, was determined through sequencing and data analysis.

Technical Abstract: Heterodera carotae, the carrot cyst nematode, is a significant pest in carrot producing regions around the world. Here we present the draft genome of H. carotae, which was generated from short read libraries from Illumina HiSeq technology, and the corresponding genome annotation.
