Sustainable corn CAP research data (USDA-NIFA Award No. 2011-68002-30190): ARDN products [dataset]. Ag Data Commons. Available: https://data.nal.usda.gov/dataset/sustainable-corn-cap-research-data-usda-nifa-award-no-2011-68002-30190-ardn-products Interpretive Summary: A national effort has been undertaken by the Agricultural Research Data Network (https://agmip.github.io/ARDN/) to translate large data sets and increase their incorporation into research efforts by crop modelers. This has been a multi-year effort to expand an existing data dictionary termed “ICASA”, build web applications, and ensure the translated data can seamlessly be ingested into a broad range of existing crop models. The Sustainable Corn CAP data was published previously at the USDA National Agricultural Library Ag Data Commons but not using this data dictionary. The data have served as a test case resulting in it being translated and harmonized with the ICASA dictionary and aligned with other ARDN tools. This harmonized data acts as a “child” to the “parent” data already at USDA National Ag Library Ag Data Commons with the difference being the automatic readiness for crop modelers to ingest the data for their specific crop model. Most data sets take substantial time to translate and reconfigure for each particular crop model which is one of the significant barriers to having more temporally and spatially diverse data sets used by researchers. These data are expected to be used by the AgMIP modeling community (https://agmip.org/) particularly in climate change research. Technical Abstract: ARDN provides dataset annotations which facilitate interoperability. For information on how to use ARDN annotations and other data products, see https://agmip.github.io/ARDN/ARDN_how.html. The Sustainable Corn CAP was a multi-state transdisciplinary project supported by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (Award No. 2011-68002-30190). Research experiments were located through the U.S. Corn Belt and examined farm-level adaptation practices for corn-based cropping systems to current and predicted impacts of climate change. |
