Interpretive Summary: The many and versatile uses of fungal-produced biosurfactants are summarized. These include use as agricultural pesticides, pesticide adjuvants and formulation ingredients, insecticides for use against disease vector insects, pharmaceuticals, industrial materials, food ingredients, and environmental bioremediation products. Few classes if biomolecules have such broad utility for use by humans. The progress in use of fungal biosurfactants in these different areas is not uniform, but future research is likely to increase the utilization of these toxicologically and environmentally safe compounds.
