Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A team of scientists from the USDA ARS have established their sheep flocks as Genetic Reference Flocks to improve genetic evaluation in the U.S. sheep industry. This will enable the development of genomic enhanced estimated breeding values and evaluate novel traits for use in the National Sheep Improvement Program. This popular press article, to be published in the August issue of Sheep Industry News, describes the individual and joint efforts of investigators on this research team.
