Interpretive Summary: Fungi can be found in nearly all environments and play important roles in agricultural production and plant health. Many fungi are difficult to identify or distinguish from one another, which makes it hard for scientists and agricultural professionals to understand the importance and distribution of these microbes. Whole genome DNA sequences can improve our ability to identify these fungi and their specific roles in the environment. This research project sequenced the first genomes of fourteen closely related fungi, some of which can cause plant or human diseases. The genomes from this research will benefit agricultural practitioners who need to differentiate these closely related fungi and scientists who need to understand why some of these fungi are pathogens and others are not.

Technical Abstract: Isolates representing 14 Alternaria section Infectoriae species collected from diverse hosts and locations were shotgun sequenced. These genome assemblies and annotations will improve the study of taxonomy and biology in this group of ubiquitous fungi.
