Technical Abstract: This editorial describes a new perspectives column that will appear in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition several times each year. The intent of this series is to provide regular updates of relevance to the readership of the Journal from pivotal institutions and individuals in the federal government. These will includes leaders at NIH, CDC, FDA, Congress, and other branches of the federal and other levels of government. This editorial also announces the inaugural perspective piece from Congressman James McGovern.
