Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Tsuga ‘Traveler’ is the first hybrid hemlock released from a plant breeding program at the US National Arboretum that is an attractive landscape plant, resembling native North American hemlock species, and resistant to Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (Adelges tsugae). Traveler resulted from a cross between T. chinensis (adelgid resistant) and T. caroliniana (adelgid susceptible). Propagules and the original plant were evaluated in field settings and containers. Traveler was released in 2020 and patented in 2021.
