Interpretive Summary: The catalytic activity of an organic photocatalyst in an aqueous medium is driven through the molecule's triplet state. This work discusses how the lifetime of octaethylporphyrin, a potential photocatalyst, is impacted when the molecule is embedded in a solid polymer versus a being dissolved in toluene.

Technical Abstract: Emission spectra of octaethylporphyrin is reported in liquid toluene solution and a rigid polymer matrix. The results of this study suggest that the lifetime of the triplet state of octaethylporphyrin increases in the polymer matrix.
