Interpretive Summary: A type of pumpkin bee, known by its scientific name Eucera (Xenoglossa) kansensis, was newly recorded for the state of South Dakota, USA, in 2013 and found in several subsequent years. The pumpkin bees were found in two counties in the eastern edge of the state, sampled predominantly with blue vane traps, and associated with a wide range of habitats that did not ncessarily include its known floral host plants of pumpkins and wild cucurbits. Further study is warranted to determine the basis for the association of E. kansensis within the wide range of habitats in this study.

Technical Abstract: Eucera (Xenoglossa) kansensis (Cockerell, 1905) is newly recorded for the state of South Dakota, USA. The bees were sampled predominantly with blue vane traps, and E. kansensis was associated with a wide range of habitats that did not include its primary floral resources of Cucurbita L. and Ipomoea L. Further study is warranted to determine the basis for the association of E. kansensis within the wide range of habitats in this study.
