Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Native tallgrass prairie habitat has been lost across the Midwestern U.S. to agricultural and urban land use. Prairie reconstruction efforts aim to return land to native vegetation and regain ecosystem services in altered and degraded soils; however, little is known about the trajectory of soil health recovery in these systems. The objective of this research is to understand the role of soil health in reconstructed prairies and how ecosystem services in native and reconstructed prairies compares with agroecosystems and other reference ecosystems. An update on soil health research in Missouri Prairie Foundation prairies will be provided.
