Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Several entries were revised, and additional new entries prepared, for the Third Edition of the ‘APS Compendium of Rose Diseases and Pests’, including an introductory section on ‘Rose diseases – Infectious disease and Noninfectious diseases/disorders’, entries on ‘Grapevine Pinot Gris virus’, ‘Rose ilarvirus 1’, ‘Rose flower break/Rose color break/Rose tobamovirus’, ‘Unknown/Phantom viruses – Rose flower proliferation/Rose leaf curl/Rose necrotic mosaic/Rose ring pattern/Rose streak/Rose wilt’, an introduction to the ‘Insect and Mite Pests’ section, and entries on the ‘European earwig’, ‘Budworms’, and the ‘Mites pests – Eriophyid mites/Flat mites/Spider mites’. The Third Edition includes multiple pathogens and pests not covered in the 2007 Second Edition, and corrects some erroneous information in that edition. The entries provide basic information about the diseases and pathogens affecting roses, including symptoms, causal organism, transmission, management options, and some selected references. The Compendium is targeted to commercial rose growers, rosarians, horticulturists, and hobby growers.
