Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Consumption of nuts and berries is part of a healthy eating pattern due to the diversity of nutrients that favorably impact a variety of health outcomes. An international nutrition conference focused on the role of nuts and berries was convened in 2022 to address current research efforts, along with the successes and challenges associated with conducting human clinical research with these foods. Proceedings from the conference highlight the inconsistencies in study designs, the homogeneity in population demographics, and the variability in test products and control foods. Future research prioritizing interindividual differences through the lens of precision nutrition and the use of innovative biomarkers for assessing health status associated with the intake of nuts and berries offers new approaches to expand and focus our understanding of the important role these foods play in nutrition and health promotion.
